Eataly

1 Jun

I went on an impromptu trip to New York this weekend. As in, I decided on Friday afternoon to head up there Saturday morning. Our weekend revolved around eating in parks. Pretty great.

Most importantly, I finally, finally went to Eataly , the Italian market owned by Mario Batali, and Joe and Lidia Bastianich. If there is a heaven – and I’m assuming there is – I’m fairly certain it is located on the corner of 23rd and 5th and its walls are lined with fresh pasta, house made mozzarella, and biscotti.

I have been waiting to go since seeing this New York Times write up last year. It was worth the wait. The article says:

Now comes Eataly, an enormous and enormously crowded new Italian-food market and restaurant collection that opened recently off Madison Square Park: 50,000 square feet of restaurants and peninsular provisions, with a fishmonger and butcher (and vegetable butcher) and an espresso bar, a wine store, a cheese store, a cooking school, a kitchenware department and a great deal more.

We went in with a mission to procure picnic items for lunch in Madison Square Park. I quickly veered off track and spotted these amazing items.
